On 24 May 2013, the best movie in the world hit US theatres. ippoddity and I saw it on the 23rd at 10pm, the preview show before the midnight premiere. It was in a fancy theatre in San Diego with fancy seats and reserved seating and two 10pm shows, one with booze and one without. They showed all five preceding Fast films marathon-style before the Fast 6 show. We didn't go to those, though, because you know. School and work and such. Though looking back I wish we'd just fucked all that and gone to all six in a row anyway. I saw it again on Father's Day, with my father and my siblings.
I've only seen it twice since then, with trepidation. The first was in December, maybe three weeks after Paul Walker's passing. It probably wasn't a good idea, and it wasn't fun, and getting through it with my mother and sister was a trial. I watched Fast 1 probably a week after that, which was sad but still Fast; but there's something about 6 that's really important and immediate to me.
Because we saw every trailer. The trailer premieres were written into our calendars. We knew when the Super Bowl was happening because that was the premiere venue for the first one. There were near-daily new trailer releases after that--generally just longer or shorter versions of the same clips--but we watched them all. The movie is two hours long, but we watched it for months. It took months.
I finally watched it for the fourth time last night. It was painful and loving and funny and Fast.
Top: The Fast and the Furious (2001). Bottom: Fast 6 (2013).
Fast 7 premieres 10 April 2015. I will be there. ♥
