I love thunderstorms here because when the wind blows like that it makes me feel like I'm on the coast. The rain ricochets off the sill of my open window like sea spray. There's nothing at all but darkness outside my window and what is a far-off darkness, really, but not being able to tell where the ocean meets the sky. When Paul Walker died I needed the ocean (my ocean, his ocean) so badly I imagined the thrum of traffic down 94 were a wave, waves. I can still pretend that now.
