kuchren gave me the cutest little bookmarks for my birthday, which I wanted to share with you. I've never been a bookmark person--I dogear (a sin, I know), or use receipts/To Do lists/due date slips. It's always just seemed like a weird thing to invent/own an entire item with such a solitary function, you know? (Like, what do you mean I can't use this shirt as a shirt, a jacket, a pillow, a blanket, a satchel, a handcloth, and also a hat? XD)

But THESE bookmarks actually add to the experience of reading, which I think I'm gonna need if I'm really gonna to this dissertation thing. Because of THESE bookmarks, I've put some thought into deciding who gets to read each book. XD

Dean is holding down the fort in Ancient Oceans of Central Kentucky by David Connerley Nahm, which is about a social services worker in Kentucky haunted by the death of her little brother. Sorry, Dean. My favorite line so far:

They weren't bad children, were they? They just wanted to carve their names into something while they were still sharp.

Sam gets to read Carceral States, which is a special edition of Amerasia Journal, an academic publication out of UCLA. While it's actually about Asian American and Native histories of incarceration, I figured what with the return of the Cage to the fore of his mind it might be an engaging read. I know, I'm terrible.

And Castiel is about to start Exiled to Motown: A Community History of Japanese Americans in Detroit because if anyone knows anything about exile or things that Happen in Detroit, it's probably Castiel.

Have fun, guys! I expect your book reports on Thursday.
